*The name Curuz� Cuati� is of Guaran� origin and means "Engraved Cross". The early settlers (Spanish conquistadores and Jesuit missionaries in Uruguay) called it Posta de Cruz since the site was a crossroads, marked by a large cross with an inscription. [Ed.]
